Hot Stone Massage

Swansea Hot Stone MassageHot stone massage is a speciality massage where smooth, heated stones are used as either an extension of the therapists own hands or are placed on the body while the therapist treats other areas of the body. The heat can be both relaxing and help loosen tight muscles allowing the therapist to work more deeply.

Hot stone massage is proven to be safe and effective in treating many conditions, including pain associated with fibromyalgia, arthritis, chronic musculoskeletal conditions, pain and tension associated with muscle strains and spasms. This type of massage helps blood vessels expand, improving circulation and “energy flow” throughout the body, aiding in detoxification, stimulating the immune system and improving digestion. Studies also suggest that this type of massage is effective in relieving anxiety, lowering cortisol levels whilst increasing the levels of neurotransmitters that aid in the reduction of depression.

What happens during a Hot Stone Massage?

Prior to your arrival smooth basalt stones are sanitized and heated in a bath of 120 – 150 degree water.

Treatment usually commences with you face down and the therapist warms up the back with traditional Swedish massage. The therapist will then massage you while holding the heated stone. The stones are replaced with another as they cool. A variety of stones of many shapes and sizes are used to work into the muscles. Hot stones are also placed in specific points along your spine, in the palms of your hands, on your belly and in-between your toes to improve energy flow within your body.

If the stones are too warm or the pressure is too intense please inform your therapist so the treatment can be adapted.
